individual, couple, family and group therapy

Psychotherapy is a method of addressing mental health concerns through discussions with a psychologist, psychiatrist, or another mental health professional. It is also referred to as talk therapy, counselling, psychosocial therapy, or simply therapy.

Throughout psychotherapy, you gain insight into your specific challenges and how your thoughts, emotions, and actions impact your well-being. Talk therapy empowers you to manage your life and handle difficult situations using healthy coping strategies.

Various forms of psychotherapy exist, and your circumstances will determine the most suitable one for you.

Discover the Services at Prima Centre for Mental Health and Wellness!

Our therapists employ a holistic, collaborative approach to meet your needs. We are dedicated to working with you to identify treatment goals from the beginning. You do not need a referral to make an appointment.

The first session might be longer than other sessions. During the therapy sessions, you will examine the relationship between your thoughts, behaviours, and emotions with the therapist and develop new patterns of thinking and behaving.

Individual and Group Supervisions

Prima CMHW offers scheduled one–on–one and group supervision. With a qualified supervisor, you will discuss files, cases, and SEUS (safe and effective use of self) for personal & professional growth.

A clinical supervisor engages with a supervisee through a contractual relationship to support their professional development, improve their safe and effective interaction in the therapeutic setting, address the therapy's direction, and ensure the client's well-being.

Clinical supervision serves four main purposes:

  • Fostering the professional development of the supervisee
  • Improving the supervisee's safe and effective engagement in the therapeutic relationship
  • Addressing the therapy's progress
  • Ensuring the client's well-being.

fees and coverage

Unfortunately, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover private psychotherapy services fees. Most extended health plans offer some degree of coverage for psychotherapy services, depending on your extended health benefits. We recommend you check with your employer or insurance provider about your plan coverage and claim procedures. Other common funding sources include Extended Health Care, WSIB, Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance, Long-term Disability Insurance Benefits, Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, Victim Quick Response Program, and Blue Cross (RCMP, Canadian Forces, Veterans).
